Luke 22:46 Meaning and Explanation

His rebuke is brief and merciful, repeating the counsel of verse 40 almost word for word: rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The arresting party is already moving; minutes remain, and what the disciples do with those minutes will shape how they meet the test.

Jesus does not demand that they feel strong; he tells them to pray. Prayer is what weakness does to borrow strength. The command 'rise' matters too - there is a moment when sorrow must be stood up against, lest it become surrender. His own example a stone's throw away was the sermon: agony itself can be turned into prayer.
