What Does Luke 22:51 Mean?
'Suffer ye thus far' - let it stop here, no further - and then the unimaginable: in the act of being arrested, Jesus reaches out and heals a man who came to seize him. Only Luke, the physician, records this final healing before the cross.
The hands about to be bound do their last free act: mending an enemy. Here is 'love your enemies' (Luke 6:27) practiced by its preacher at the worst possible moment.
