What Does Luke 22:8 Mean?
Preparation meant real work: securing a room, roasting the lamb, setting out unleavened bread, bitter herbs, and wine. Jesus entrusts the task to two of his closest disciples, Peter and John, who from this season onward will be paired again and again (Acts 3:1).
Notice who commands the meal: Jesus is not a guest at this Passover but its host. 'Prepare us the passover, that we may eat' - he intends to preside at the table where he will give the bread new meaning. The Lord still prepares a table for his people (Psalm 23:5), and still uses willing servants to set it.
