What Does Luke 6:28 Mean?
Jesus sharpens the command into two practices: bless the people who curse you, and pray for the people who use you spitefully. Enemy-love now has words — spoken good in exchange for spoken harm — and it has a prayer list with hard names on it.
It is nearly impossible to keep hating someone you are honestly praying for; intercession bends the heart of the one who prays. Stephen prayed this way for the men stoning him (Acts 7:60), having learned it from his Lord. When mistreatment comes, the disciple's first weapon is not a reply but a prayer.
