Peter, the usual spokesman, says what the rest are thinking. The rich man would not leave his possessions, but the fishermen had left nets, boats, and livelihoods when Jesus called. Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.

It is half claim and half question: what will become of those who did let go? Jesus does not rebuke him for asking. Those who have given up real things for his sake are permitted to wonder about them, and the answer he gives is more generous than the question dared to be.
