Mark 11:19 Meaning and Explanation

As on the night before, Jesus withdraws from Jerusalem at dusk; during this week he lodged outside the walls, toward Bethany on the Mount of Olives (Luke 21:37). Days of public teaching in the temple alternate with nights away from the city.

The rhythm is deliberate. The leaders now seek his life, and his hour, though near, has not yet come; he neither hides from the city by day nor sleeps within its reach by night. There is wisdom here for every servant of God: engagement and withdrawal, public labor and quiet rest among friends. Even the Son of God closed each contested day in retirement—and returned each morning unafraid, to finish the work he came to do.
