What Does Mark 12:10 Mean?
Jesus seals the parable with Scripture, quoting Psalm 118:22 -- from the very psalm the crowds sang days earlier at his entry into Jerusalem (Mark 11:9). Builders inspect a stone, judge it useless, and cast it aside; God takes that same stone and makes the whole building depend on it.
Rejection by the experts is not rejection by God. The apostles preached this verse beside the empty tomb: "This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders" (Acts 4:11; compare 1 Peter 2:7). The crucified one is the cornerstone, and everything God is building lines up on him. Whatever men discard, God can make the very point on which all things rest.
