What Does Mark 14:12 Mean?
The day has come when the lambs were sacrificed in the temple courts. Passover had to be eaten within Jerusalem, so the disciples ask where to prepare — a practical question for a teacher with no house in the city, in a week when his enemies are hunting him.
The timing in Mark is deliberate: as the lambs die, Jesus arranges the meal at which he will name bread and cup his body and blood. Paul would later write, Christ our passover is sacrificed for us (1 Corinthians 5:7). The feast of deliverance from Egypt is about to be filled with a greater deliverance.
