What Does Mark 14:28 Mean?
Before the prophecy of scattering can settle, Jesus speaks past it: after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. In one sentence he assumes his death, announces his resurrection, and makes an appointment with the very men about to abandon him.
I will go before you is the language of a shepherd, who walks ahead of his flock (John 10:4). The scattered sheep will be regathered, and in Galilee, where he first called them, he will meet them again (Mark 16:7). Failure is real in this story, but it is not final; the risen Christ plans reunion with deserters before they have even deserted.
