Mark 14:42 Meaning and Explanation

Rise up, let us go — not let us flee. Jesus wakes his friends and moves toward the torches coming through the trees. He that betrayeth me is at hand: he knows who leads the crowd, and he goes out to meet him.

The verse shows the fruit of the prayer in Gethsemane: composure where there had been horror, initiative where there might have been flight. No man taketh it from me, he had said of his life; I lay it down of myself (John 10:18). The disciples stumble up from sleep into a crisis they never prayed about; their Lord walks into it prepared.
