What Does Mark 14:8 Mean?
Jesus interprets her act more deeply than she may have known. Bodies were anointed with spices after death; he says she has done it beforehand, for the burying. In a chapter where men plot, bargain, sleep, deny, and flee, one woman prepares the Lord for his death.
She hath done what she could — few commendations in Scripture are warmer. Not what she could not do; what she could, she did, and fully. Christ measures offerings not by their size but by their completeness, as with the widow and her two mites (Mark 12:44). Whatever lies in your hand to do for him, done wholly, receives this same verdict.
