What Does Mark 4:38 Mean?
In the stern, on the cushion kept there, Jesus sleeps through the gale, worn through from the long day of teaching. The disciples wake Him with a cry that is half prayer and half reproach: Master, carest thou not that we perish? Terror has begun to read His silence as indifference.
His sleep tells two truths at once: a weariness fully human, and a trust so complete that wind cannot shake it, the untroubled rest of the psalmist who lies down in peace because the Lord keeps him.
