What Does Mark 5:28 Mean?
Mark lets us overhear her reasoning, the sentence she had been repeating to herself: "If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole." Twelve years of failed remedies have distilled her hope to a single act -- the merest contact with his clothing.
Her plan keeps her anonymous; her faith aims at him. Jesus will shortly insist on that distinction, crediting not the garment but her trust in the one who wore it. Yet how kind that he honors faith at whatever maturity it has reached. He does not require a perfect understanding before he will heal -- only a reach in his direction.
