What Does Mark 5:30 Mean?
Nothing about the touch escapes him. Jesus perceives "in himself" that power -- the King James' word is "virtue" -- has gone out, and he stops the whole urgent procession with a question: "Who touched my clothes?"
Dozens are pressing against him; one has touched him. Jesus knows the difference between the jostle of a crowd and the grip of faith, and his question is not for information. He asks in order to draw the hidden woman into the open -- not to expose her shame but to complete her healing with his word, to turn a secret cure into a meeting. He does not let those who touch him slip away unblessed.
