What Does Mark 5:37 Mean?
Jesus thins the company to three: Peter, James, and John -- the same inner circle he will take up the mount of transfiguration (Mark 9:2) and into Gethsemane (Mark 14:33). The crowd, and even the other disciples, are left behind.
What is about to happen in that house is not a spectacle, and Jesus refuses to stage it as one. He takes witnesses enough to establish the truth and few enough to guard its holiness. Some of God's mightiest works are done in small rooms before a handful of eyes. The Lord who could have raised the girl before a multitude chose a bedroom, two parents, and three friends.
