After the feeding of the five thousand and the healings at Gennesaret, the fame of Jesus has filled Galilee. Now a delegation gathers: Pharisees, together with scribes who have traveled from Jerusalem, the seat of religious learning and authority. Their arrival signals official scrutiny — the capital has taken notice of the Teacher from Nazareth.
They came together unto him, yet nearness is not openness. It is possible to stand close to Jesus with a heart already settled, watching for fault rather than listening for truth.
