What Does Mark 7:12 Mean?
The keepers of the tradition enforced the vow over the commandment: a son who had said Corban was released — indeed forbidden — from further help to his parents. Suffer here means permit; they permitted him nothing more for father or mother. The loophole had hardened into a wall.
Notice who bears the cost: the aging parents the commandment existed to protect. When rules are honored above people, love is broken in both directions at once — toward God and toward neighbor. Jesus stands here, as he always stands, with the vulnerable whom a system had learned to overlook.
