What Does Mark 7:21 Mean?
Now the door of the heart is opened and its traffic named. Evil thoughts head the list — the inner reasonings and schemings in which the deeds that follow are first drafted. After them come three that destroy persons and households: adultery, fornication, murder.
The order itself teaches: thought precedes act, and the heart composes what the hands perform. That is why guarding the heart is the first work of holiness (Proverbs 4:23) — and why the renewal of the heart is the deep gift Christ offers: not a trimming of behavior, but a change at the spring.
