Matthew 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Joseph is worried and confused — until an angel visits him in a dream with news that changes everything: the baby coming is God's own Son.

Today's Story

Joseph was going to marry a young woman named Mary. But then Joseph found out that Mary was going to have a baby — and he felt confused and worried.

He didn't know what to do. But while he was thinking about it, he fell asleep — and an angel of the Lord came to him in a dream!

“Joseph,” the angel said, “don't be afraid to marry Mary. The baby inside her is from God's own Spirit. She will have a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus — because He will save His people from their sins.”

The angel said this was the promise God had made long, long ago: the baby would be called Immanuel — which means “God with us.”

When Joseph woke up, he did exactly what the angel said. He married Mary and took loving care of her. And he got ready to welcome the most special baby the world would ever know — God Himself, come to be with us.
