What Does Matthew 11:24 Mean?
Jesus seals the warning to Capernaum as He did to the other cities: "it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee." The city destroyed for its wickedness will fare better than the town that hosted the Lord Himself yet would not repent.
Once more the measure of judgment is the measure of light received. Capernaum had the greatest privilege -- and so bears the greatest accountability. The repeated refrain across these verses drives home a single truth: God's gifts are also a responsibility. To have seen much of Christ and remained unchanged is no small thing.
