What Does Matthew 11:6 Mean?
Jesus ends His message to John with a beatitude. The word rendered "offended" pictures stumbling over a stone in the path. Some expected the Coming One to overturn thrones and free prisoners at once; instead He healed the sick and preached to the poor while John still sat in chains. The temptation was to be tripped up by a Messiah who did not match the picture.
To be "blessed" here is to keep trusting Jesus even when He does not act as we imagined. He gently acknowledges that He may not meet every expectation -- and calls those who follow Him anyway happy.
