Matthew 15:35 Meaning and Explanation

Jesus commands the multitude to sit down on the ground. The simple instruction is an act of preparation and of faith; the people are seated as if a meal were certain, though as yet there is only a little bread. To sit and wait is to trust that the Lord will provide. Order is brought to the crowd in expectation of the provision to come.

There is quiet faith in obeying such a command before the bread appears. The people do as He says, taking their places at His word. The verse shows that God's provision often follows our willingness to make ready and trust. Before the miracle is seen, there is the call to sit, to wait, and to receive. The crowd is positioned to be fed, and so the Lord's bounty will find them ready.
