What Does Matthew 22:1 Mean?
The chief priests and elders have just challenged the authority of Jesus (Matthew 21:23), and He has answered with the parables of the two sons and the wicked husbandmen. Rather than retreating, He "answered and spake unto them again" -- a third parable, the wedding feast, is coming.
Notice that Jesus answers people, not merely questions. His opponents brought hostility; He brings a story designed to reach the conscience. A parable both conceals and reveals: hard hearts hear only a tale, while open hearts find themselves inside it. Even now, the parables of Jesus are an invitation before they are a verdict.
