What Does Matthew 23:38 Mean?
Following his lament, Jesus speaks a word of sorrowful consequence. 'Your house' refers to the temple and the city, the place meant to be filled with God's presence. To be left desolate is to be abandoned, emptied of the protection and glory it once knew.
