On the day after the preparation, the Sabbath, the chief priests and Pharisees come together to Pilate. Even on a sacred day they busy themselves with the matter of the dead Jesus.
The leaders who sought His death remain uneasy even after He is buried. Their gathering on the Sabbath, to deal with one they call a deceiver, betrays a lingering fear. They cannot rest, troubled by the memory of His words. Their very anxiety bears witness that they have not truly silenced Him, and their efforts to secure the tomb will, in the end, only make the wonder of the resurrection more certain.
