Jesus touches their eyes and grants healing according to their faith.

What Does Matthew 9:29 Mean?

Having heard their confession, Jesus touches their darkened eyes and speaks the word that binds his power to their trust: "According to your faith be it unto you." The touch is gentle, personal, and direct, meeting each man in the very place of his blindness rather than from a distance. He gives himself to them through their faith.

Their faith does not in itself create the healing, for the power is all his; but their faith is the open hand into which his gift is placed and received. Christ honors trust, choosing to work through it rather than around it or apart from it. To every believer who comes to him, his word here still says that what is received from his hand answers to what is truly believed of him. Faith opens; he fills.

Matthew 9:29 in the Original Language

pistin (πίστιν), 'faith' -- trust or reliance, the open hand that receives what God gives.
