What Does Micah 2:8 Mean?
The charge is intimate and painful: 'my people' have risen up like an enemy. They strip the outer robe from those passing by in peace, treating the trusting and unarmed as spoils of war. The bonds of community have been turned into predation.
When a people meant to protect one another instead prey on one another, the wound goes deep into God's own heart, for these are still 'my people.' To rob the defenseless of even their coat is to betray the covenant of love. The verse calls every community to guard the trust that holds it together.
