The conquerors are summoned to plunder Nineveh's endless silver, gold, and treasures, the wealth she had amassed from many nations.

What Does Nahum 2:9 Mean?

The victors are called to plunder. Take the silver, take the gold, for there is no end to the treasure heaped up in the city's beautiful things. Nineveh had grown rich by stripping the nations it conquered, hoarding the wealth of the world. Now that same wealth is carried off by others. The endless store that was the empire's boast becomes the endless spoil of its conquerors. What was taken by violence is now taken away.

Here is the recurring truth that riches gathered by oppression do not secure those who gather them. The treasures could not buy Nineveh's safety; they only made the city a richer prize. Wealth without righteousness is a fragile foundation, passing in a day from one hand to another. Scripture warns again and again against laying up treasure that thieves break in and steal, and Nineveh becomes a vast example. The lasting riches are not the kind that can be carried off but the treasure stored with God, which no conqueror can plunder and no collapse can drain away.
