What Does Nehemiah 10:23 Mean?
The list of the people's chief men continues. Hoshea shares the root of the name meaning salvation, the same root from which the name of Jesus is drawn in its fuller form.
Woven through these names is the theme of God's saving help, the hope that ran through all Israel's history and that would find its fullness in the One whose very name means the LORD saves. The covenant these men sealed pointed forward, however dimly, to that greater salvation.
Nehemiah 10:23 in the Original Language
hoshea (הוֹשֵׁעַ), 'salvation' -- from the root yasha', 'to save,' the same root behind the name Jesus.
