What Does Nehemiah 3:23 Mean?
The record names three men who each repaired the wall directly in front of where they lived. Benjamin and Hashub worked opposite their house, and Azariah beside his own.
Once more the pattern of building "by his house" appears. People secured the stretch nearest their families, where the wall protected their own. There is a natural faithfulness in guarding what God has placed in our immediate care; tending what is near us serves the whole.
