What Does Nehemiah 3:26 Mean?
The Nethinim, servants assigned to assist the Levites at the temple, lived in the Ophel district and worked the wall near the water gate on the east and the tower that stood out from it.
These were among the lowliest of the temple workforce, yet they too built. The water gate, opening toward the source of the city's water, again recalls the life-giving streams of God. Even the humblest servants share in raising God's city, and their portion is recorded with the rest.
