What Does Nehemiah 6:7 Mean?
The accusation grows. Now Nehemiah is charged with appointing prophets to announce a king in Judah, words sure to reach the Persian throne as treason. Having built this threat, Sanballat circles back to his real goal: come, let us take counsel together. The slander was only the lever to force the meeting.
Intimidation often hides its true request behind a wall of fear. The threat of a report to the king is meant to make Nehemiah feel that only a private negotiation can save him.
