Context
God's power manifested in the creation and stability of mountains.
What Does Psalms 65:6 Mean?
The psalm now turns to God's cosmic power. Mountains—the most permanent, immovable features of the landscape—are established and held fast by God's strength alone. The image suggests that what seems eternally fixed depends entirely on divine upholding. 'Being girded with power' uses the picture of armor or readiness—God is actively dressed with might, prepared and equipped to sustain all things.
This verse connects God's trustworthiness in answering prayer (verse 5) to His demonstrated control over nature's grandest features. If God can hold mountains in place, surely He can handle human petitions and needs. The stability of creation becomes a sign and assurance of the stability of His promises to those who call upon Him.
