What Does Revelation 2:15 Mean?

Alongside the teaching of Balaam, the same group named in the letter to Ephesus appears again here, the Nicolaitans. Where Ephesus rejected their deeds, some in Pergamos embraced their teaching. The Lord repeats His verdict on it: "which thing I hate."

What one church refused, another tolerated. The contrast is instructive: the same error meets very different responses among God's people. The Lord's hatred of this teaching is unchanged from city to city, for His standard does not bend to local custom. To welcome what He hates is to invite the very rebuke a faithful church had escaped. Discernment must not sleep.
