Christ calls Pergamos to repent, or He will come quickly and fight against the offenders with the sword of His mouth.

What Does Revelation 2:16 Mean?

The call is urgent and single: repent. If the church will not turn from tolerating false teaching, the Lord will come swiftly and make war on the offenders with the sword of His mouth, the same two-edged sword by which He introduced Himself to this church.

The word that defends the faithful also judges the unrepentant. The Lord's coming is mercy delayed only until repentance, but it will not wait forever. His word, which now warns, can also wound. The summons is gracious, for there is still time to turn; yet it is serious, for the One who speaks holds the sword that settles every matter. Repentance is the open door.
