What Does Revelation 21:23 Mean?
John observes another absence: the city has no need of sun or moon. The great lights that govern day and night, created in the beginning to give light upon the earth, are no longer required within the holy city.
The reason is that the glory of God Himself illuminates it, and the Lamb is its light. The presence of God provides everything the sun once gave and more, a light that never fails and never sets. The Lamb, Christ Himself, is named as the lamp by which the city shines. For the reader, this fulfills the ancient promise that the Lord would be an everlasting light to His people (Isaiah 60:19).
