What Does Revelation 22:16 Mean?
For the first time in the book Jesus speaks his own name plainly. He has sent his angel to bear this testimony to the gathered churches. He claims two great titles: the root and offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
These titles hold the whole sweep of his identity. He is David's root, the source from whom the royal line springs, and David's offspring, the promised heir born within it. As the morning star he is the herald of the day that the book has been promising, the light that rises when the long night ends. The same Lord who reigns from the throne speaks tenderly to his people, declaring who he is so they will know whom they await.
