What Does Revelation 6:2 Mean?
With the first seal opened, the first of four riders rides out. He sits a white horse, carries a bow, and receives a crown, and he goes forth 'conquering, and to conquer.' The crown is given to him, a reminder that even this advance happens under a higher permission, not by the rider's own right.
The image is one of conquest set loose upon the earth, the opening note of the troubles the scroll contains. Yet the reader is not left in fear. White and a victor's crown will return later in this book on the One called Faithful and True, whose triumph is sure. Here the faithful are taught to read every rising power against the certainty that the Lamb already reigns and His victory cannot be undone.
