What Does Revelation 9:10 Mean?
John returns to where the menace truly lies: the tails. Like scorpions, these creatures carry stings, and in those stings is their power to wound. Twice now the five months are named, fixing again the bounded season of their hurting.
The repeated limit is deliberate. However dreadful the sting, its time is short and its reach is set. Evil is loud and armored and fast, but it is not endless. The reader is meant to hold both truths together: the pain is real and not to be made light of, yet it runs on a clock that God Himself has wound. The season of stinging will pass, and the everlasting kingdom of Christ will remain when every tail and sting has been cast down.
