What Does Revelation 9:15 Mean?

The four are loosed. John says they were prepared for a precise hour and day and month and year, an appointed moment fixed in advance, to strike a third of mankind. As with the trumpets before, the judgment is partial, a third and not the whole, leaving the larger part still living and still able to turn.

The exactness is the point. Even this terrible release is timed to the hour by God. Nothing here is random or out of control; the calendar of judgment is written before it unfolds. And even now the limit holds: a third, not all. God's purpose in restraint is always the same, to leave room for repentance. The reader sees a God who is neither careless nor cruel, but precise in justice and patient in mercy.
