What Does Romans 14:10 Mean?
Paul confronts both factions directly with a sharp 'why.' Why do you, the cautious one, judge your brother? Why do you, the free one, set him at nought as worthless? He calls each person a 'brother,' a reminder that the one being judged is family.
The reason to lay down the gavel is sobering: 'we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.' Each of us is headed for that throne as the one judged, not seated on it as judge. To usurp Christ's bench now is to forget our own standing before it then. The coming judgment, far from licensing our verdicts, dethrones them -- there is only one Judge, and we are all among the accountable.
