Paul sends greetings to a cluster of believers, naming five men and then including 'the brethren which are with them.' These names, common among servants and freedmen, point to a small fellowship that met and lived together, bound by their shared faith.
Even those Paul could only name in a group are not passed over. Behind each name was a real person, and behind the phrase 'the brethren with them' was a whole gathering Paul could not list one by one. The Lord knows every member of His church, named and unnamed alike. None is anonymous to Him; every believer is counted among the brethren of Christ.
