What Does Romans 16:3 Mean?
Paul begins a long roll of greetings, and the first names are dear friends. Priscilla and Aquila were tentmakers like Paul, a couple he had lived and worked with in Corinth and Ephesus. Driven from Rome and now apparently returned, they had shared his trade and his mission across many miles.
He calls them 'my helpers in Christ Jesus,' literally his fellow workers. The spread of the gospel was never a solitary task; it moved forward through partnerships, through ordinary households opened to the work of God. That a husband and wife are named together as coworkers honors the shared labor of a believing home, where two lives become one offering to Christ.
