What Does Romans 6:13 Mean?
Paul makes the charge concrete. 'Members' are the parts of the body, our faculties and actions, which can be handed over to sin as weapons of unrighteousness or presented to God for righteousness. He sets the two surrenders side by side and calls believers, 'as those that are alive from the dead,' to choose God.
Every faculty we possess can serve one master or the other. To yield ourselves to God is to place hands, voice, mind, and strength at His disposal for good. The appeal rests on identity: we are people brought from death to life, and so it is fitting to offer the whole self to the One who raised us, that our bodies become instruments of His righteousness.
