What Does Romans 6:8 Mean?
Paul returns to the pairing that runs through the chapter: death with Christ and life with Christ. He frames it as a matter of belief, 'we believe that we shall also live with him.' What has begun in our dying to sin points forward to a shared life that is both present and still to come.
This is faith resting on Christ's own resurrection. Because He lives, those joined to Him will live, and no power can finally separate them from Him. The believer can face the future with confidence, knowing that union with Christ in His death secures union with Him in His unending life.
