What Does Ruth 3:18 Mean?
Naomi gives Ruth her final counsel for the day: Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall. Now is the time to wait. And Naomi speaks with confidence about Boaz's character: the man will not rest until he has finished the thing this very day. She knows he is a man of his word, who will pursue the matter to completion without delay.
There is deep peace in Naomi's instruction. Ruth has done all she can; now she is to rest and trust, leaving the outcome to a faithful redeemer who will not stop until the work is done. Such waiting is not idleness but trust, the quiet confidence that the one who has promised will surely act. This is a beautiful posture of faith: having entrusted our cause to the Redeemer, we sit still and let Him finish what He has begun. Boaz will not rest until Ruth is redeemed, and so she may rest. The work belongs to him, and he will see it through.
