What Does Zechariah 8:7 Mean?
The exile had flung God's people far and wide. Speaking of east and west, God uses these directions as a way of saying everywhere, from the farthest reaches in every quarter. He pledges to gather and save them all, leaving none behind in distant lands.
No distance can place a person beyond the reach of God's saving arm. He knows where each of His own has been scattered and is committed to bringing them home. This gathering love foreshadows a wider ingathering still, when people from every corner of the earth are drawn to the Lord. The God who saves does not lose track of even one whom He calls His own.
