Zephaniah 2:9
“Therefore as I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.”

What Does Zephaniah 2:9 Mean?
God makes a solemn oath, as I live, the strongest assurance He can give. Moab and Ammon will become like Sodom and Gomorrah, a place of nettles, salt pits, and perpetual desolation. The pride that mocked God's people will be brought to utter ruin. And once again, the remnant of God's people will possess what is left.
When God binds Himself with an oath upon His own life, the matter is certain. The proud cities that scorned the humble will be undone, and the humble will inherit. This is the great reversal woven through Scripture: the meek shall inherit the earth. Pride that lifts itself against God's people is on a collision course with His justice, while the lowly remnant is destined for an inheritance. The God of hosts keeps both promises, the warning and the gift, with equal faithfulness.
