Christ with the Crown of Thorns
The soldiers press a crown of thorns upon his head and drape him in a purple robe, and Pilate brings him before the crowd (John 19). An oil on canvas by the Danish painter Carl Bloch (1880).

Carl Heinrich Bloch was a Danish painter best known for the 23-painting cycle on the life of Christ commissioned for the Chapel of Frederiksborg Castle (1865–1879). His warmly lit, intimate scenes are among the most widely reproduced devotional images of the 19th century.
