The Supper at Emmaus
At table in Emmaus the risen Jesus takes bread, blesses and breaks it, and in that moment the eyes of the two disciples are opened to recognize him (Luke 24). An oil on canvas by the Danish painter Carl Bloch (1870).

Carl Heinrich Bloch was a Danish painter best known for the 23-painting cycle on the life of Christ commissioned for the Chapel of Frederiksborg Castle (1865–1879). His warmly lit, intimate scenes are among the most widely reproduced devotional images of the 19th century.
